Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information LeaseVera collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to renters and landlords who use our service.

Note for reviewers: This is a structured working draft for consent-screen review purposes. It will be reviewed and finalized with legal counsel before public launch.

1. Information we collect

LeaseVera collects information in two ways: directly from you and through third-party verification services.

  • Identity. Government-issued ID documents and selfie images, collected via Stripe Identity to verify your name, date of birth, and photo match.
  • Income and employment. Bank account transaction history and employer data collected via Plaid to verify income level and employment status.
  • Rental history. Prior addresses and landlord contact information you provide directly.
  • Screening data. Credit, criminal background, and eviction history obtained from our tenant-screening partners.
  • Account information. Your name, email address, and account credentials, which may be provided through Google Sign-In.
  • Payment information. Billing details collected and processed by Stripe. LeaseVera does not store your payment card number.

2. How we use your information

We use the information collected to:

  • Build and maintain your verified renter profile
  • Generate a secure, shareable profile link that you control
  • Display your verified profile to landlords you choose to share it with
  • Process your one-time payment for profile creation
  • Send transactional emails (profile access notifications, receipts)
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Third-party services

LeaseVera uses the following third-party services to provide verification and payments:

  • Stripe — payment processing and identity verification (Stripe Identity). Stripe's privacy policy governs data they collect directly.
  • Plaid — income and employment verification via bank account connections. Plaid's privacy policy governs their data handling.
  • Google — optional sign-in via Google OAuth. If you use Google Sign-In, Google's privacy policy applies to that authentication.
  • Tenant screening providers — credit, criminal, and eviction data sourced from consumer reporting agencies in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

4. Data security

All data is encrypted at rest and in transit using industry-standard protocols. Access to your profile data by landlords is governed by the secure link you generate and share. We maintain access logs for all profile views. We do not grant internal employees access to your verification documents except as needed to resolve a support issue, and only with your knowledge.

5. Your control over your data

As a renter, you have meaningful control over your profile:

  • You decide which landlords receive your profile link
  • You can revoke landlord access to your profile at any time from your dashboard
  • You can view a full audit trail of who has accessed your profile and when
  • You can request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing us

6. Data retention

We retain your profile data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory purposes (such as payment records, which Stripe may retain per their own policies).
